Shanghai, like Sakhir was a new
addition to the Formula One calendar in 2004, and was also designed by Hermann
Tilke.
The weekend saw Michael Schumacher
look unusually ragged, as he spun at the first turn during qualifying and also
spun coming on to the long back straight during the race itself.
The track is shaped like the
Chinese character 'Shang' and provided plenty of overtaking during the race. The
facilities are second to none, and two huge aerofoil like buildings tower above
the start finish straight, with teams allocated spacious buildings located on a
lake!
The 2005 event brought the season to a close, and an unlocked drain cover forced
Juan Pablo Montoya to retire, while Narain Karthikeyan crashed heavily entering
the huge back straight.
