OVERVIEW
Re-entered F1 as a full team in 2002 after an absence of 16 years. Supplied
works engines in 1986 and from 1989-1997, winning 5 Constructors
championships with Williams, and 4 Drivers Championships.
Pulled out of F1 at end of 1997, but continued to supply engines under the
badge of Meccachrome and Supertec until 2000.
Re-entered sport in 2001 with Benetton, buying the team outright mid-way
through the season. Re-named the team Renault in 2002 and won first race
with Alonso at Hungary in 2003.
Trulli won 2004 Monaco Grand Prix as team finished 3rd in Constructors but
falls out with team manager Briatore, and leaves before end of season.
Fisichella brought in to partner Alonso and wins Australian Grand Prix, but
unlucky throughout remainder of season and fails to win again, while Alonso
wins 7 times, including Renaults home race in France, on way to securing
drivers and constructors championships, ahead of Raikkonen and McLaren
Mercedes.
