rollover ff1 template   Max Mosley has held the position of FIA president since 1991 and is currently serving his fourth term.

Mosley was born in London in 1940 and is the son of Sir Oswald Mosley.

Educated at Christ Church, Oxford, he graduated in 1961 with a masters degree in Physics. He also studied law at Gray's Inn, London, and qualified as a barrister in 1964.

His interest in motor sport developed in 1966 when he raced in club events, and then in Formula Two in 1968. His retirement in 1969 led him into racing car production, and he co founded the March team.

His first foray into motor sport management began in 1977 when he became a legal advisor to FOCA (Formula One Constructors Association).

He also established the Simtek Research team with Nick Worth in 1986, but sold his share in 1991 when he was elected president of the FIA, beating Jean Marie Balestre by 43 votes to 29. He was elected to his second term in 1997, his third in 2001 and his fourth in 2005, despite resigning in 2004, before quickly changing his mind.

He is accredited with the 'Concorde Agreement' a secret document that governs much of Formula One. He has also gone far and beyond in his quest to increase safety in F1, and has implemented numerous changes, including raised cockpit sides, deformable structures in the nose cones and side pods, and increased crash test speeds, as well as implementing slower V8 engines for 2006, as well as restricted aerodynamics in recent years.

However Moseley is also acclaimed with the increase in politics in F1, and heightened controversy in recent years. The threat of a manufacturer based series, with aims differing to Mosley's views regarding the commercial state of F1, still remains a real threat, but relations have improved over the past few months, although Mosley has stated that all manufacturer teams have to sign up to a new Concorde agreement by the end of April to guarantee their entry to the 2008 championship and beyond.

Mosley's current term ends in 2009, although many believe he will step down before that.
