The French Grand Prix moved to
Magny Cours in 1991 after it was massively redeveloped. It is famous for its
ultra smooth 'billiard table' surface, and allows teams to run very low ride
heights which increases grip and therefore speed.
The track features a mix of high
speed sections, medium speed corners and slow hairpins. Teams opt for a medium
downforce setting to cope with this range.
The Adelaide hairpin provides a
good overtaking opportunity, as does the revised end section to the lap, where
Jarno Trulli was passed on the last lap by Rubens Barrichello in 2004.
This is the home race of the Renault Champions, and with their recent success,
expect the grandstands to be decked with bright blue flags and fans wearing
Renault Merchandise.
